Smartphone users are always looking for longer battery life. While most of them look at phones with a larger battery, almost nobody pays attention to how do you operate it, once you get your hand on it.
If you have been using your phone for over a year you may have started noticing that your battery does not behave the way it did, when you first got it. Partial Charge Your Way
A common myth that has been passed on from the lead-acid batteries is that the best way to charge is to drain your battery all the way to 0% and then charge it all the way to 100%. this makes more harm than good to Li-Ion batteries. Doing so places immense stress and load on your battery and will do more harm than good.
The best practice is to do a “top-up”. Just like you have mobile top-up plans, you should have small “top-ups” for your phone as well. A short 20% charge as and when needed would be the best thing to do. Obviously, in cases where you need a lot of juice, you should charge your device to about 70-80% so that it can last you for a long time.
Forget to Connect Your Charger Overnight
Most of us have this habit of keeping our phones on charge overnight. This is not a practice that should be followed at all. Ideally, your phones should stop drawing power once they reach their full capacity. but this is not what happens. Your phone keeps drawing in power which strains your battery further and damages it to a great extent.
Doing so not only places a great deal of stress on your device but also causes it to heat up. This heat again is not good for your device and will decrease the performance of your device as well. So the next time you wake up and find out that you forgot to turn the switch on, it is probably for the best!
Keep Your Phone Down
Many of us have a habit of using the device while it is charging- be it listening to music or watching some videos on YouYube. You should completely avoid doing so if you want your battery to survive in the long run. What you are basically doing is discharging the battery while it tries to recover from the damage that you are doing.
You will need a charger that not only keeps up with the damage that you do but also charge the battery even further. This is the worst thing that you can put your battery through and should stop doing so immediately. An effective way would be to switch the device off while it charges so that it can charge in peace!
Put Them To Sleep
Applications like Facebook drain your device even while you are not using them. Most of the time they are unknown to us and can keep draining the battery without our knowledge. You should look into this and keep all the applications to sleep or hibernate, except those that you require all the time.
What this will do is decrease the battery consumption and you might be able to get more out of your devices on single charges. An application that can help you to do is – Greenify. This application automatically force stops applications and even puts them to sleep. It is effective and it is recommended that you should put your applications to sleep at least twice a day.
All in all, don’t stress. Keep following these methods and you may notice an increase in your battery health and will soon find that you can use your devices for a longer period of time.
